Nature !

Once upon a time, it so happened that Swami Vivekananda was passing by a river side along with his disciples. Enroute, on the shores of the river, Swamiji saw a pit about 4 feet in depth and inside it was a Scorpion which was struggling to climb over the pit and get away. Though, this scorpion was trying rigorously to get out of the pit, in vain were all its trials.

Seeing the condition of the scorpion, pity engulfed the Swamiji and he asked the disciples to wait while he pulled out the Scorpion out of the pit. Swamiji bent over to remove it from there and the moment he tried to get hold of the Scorpion, it stung him. It caused severe pain. Not minding the pain it caused, the Swamiji tried to pull it out again and once again the scorpion stung. After Swamiji made few trials in this manner getting multiple stings from the insect, one of the disciples asked him why he was trying so hard when the Scorpion was constantly stinging him and why not leave it to its fate. At this the Swamiji replied thus " The very nature of this creature is to sting whenever it feels threat. It has been created by God in such a way. My nature is to protect it. Though the Scorpion which is a mere insect with no advanced intelligence that we human beings possess, is trying to fulfill the quality of its nature to the fullest, why shouldn't I being a Human try to fulfill mine ?". Neverthless to say, after few more trials, Swami Vivekananda could sucessfully pull the Scorpion out of the pit.

Moral :

Every living creature in this universe is born with a nature that is destined to it by God ! God created so many human beings with different mentalities. One may be a king, a pauper or a Miser. What has to be remembered is that, we possess a heart which has the highest qualities of all "Forgiving". Even when someone tries to harm us, its the way how we control our mind and heart and try doing good unto one. Its ones own acts and deeds that effect one for self realisation. That said, while respecting the very nature of one and all, let us all be kind hearted !

Who was Subhadra in her previous birth ?

Subhadra was the sister of Lord Krishna in Dwapara Yuga. As a result of her past good deeds, subhadra was born in a close familial relationship to the Lord Krishna. Subhadra was born to Rohini after King Kamsa was killed by Lord Krishna. After the kurukshetra war, Sri Krishna asked Arjuna to take subhadra into the deep waters and push her into it and return without looking back. Thus ordered, Arjuna took subhadra into the deep waters and pushed her into it. In his return journey Arjuna was curious to know why the Lord has ordered thus.  Almost reaching the shores, due to uncontrollable curiousity, Arjuna looks back to find a huge demoness in the waters.

Surprised with what he saw, Arjuna approached Lord Krishna and enquired about the demoness. Lord Krishna told Arjuna that in the past life, Subhadra was the demoness Trijata, the daughter of King Vibheeshana of Lanka and a Niece to the Demon King Ravana. In Treta yuga, Trijata helped sita in living at peace in the ashoka vatika. Thus pleased, Lord Rama (the previous Maha Vishnu incarnation) gave her a boon to be born in a close familial relationship to him in the next life. Hence, Trijata was born as Subhadra and lived until her store of good deeds exhausted and thus has turned again into a demoness.

Destiny !

Once it so happened that the eldest of Drutarashtra's son's, Suyodhana, cautioned all his siblings not to serve any food when it was dark to the third sibling of the Pandavas, the so called Arjuna. The reason was that, if Arjuna was served any  food while it was dark, he would understand the logic behind using his weapon to aim and dart at the targets during nights. The kauravas have taken utmost care to prevent from this to happen for a long time.

One day, Arjuna was searching for Bheema, the second sibling in order of the panadavas. Having searched all over the place, Arjuna still could not find him. It was already dark and the only place that was left out was the royal kitchen. Not to leave any plate unturned, Arjuna headed to the kitchen and found that the kitchen was pitch dark. However, he heard sounds coming out of the kitchen and cried out to find who that was. Bheema answered arjuna's call and said would join him in five minutes after having few more sweets. Arjuna was astonished as to how Bheema was able locate the food and his mouth and eat while it was so dark in the Kitchen. Bheema answered Arjuna by stating that it was by using his sense organs to smell the food and by way of practice and keen observation of the kitchen and its layout. This instigated in Arjuna the quench to use his weapon during the nights to dart at the targets. Thus after practicing for many years, Arjuna was successful in using his weapon with equal capability during the day as well as in the nights.

Moral : Once something has been destined by God to happen, may there be any methods that man might adopt to prevent it, it would certainly take its turn at the prescribed time ! Hari Bol !
